Check leads with Precleared before your agent adds them to Artisan

If you work with Ava, Artisan's AI BDR, through Artisan's MCP connector, connect Precleared's MCP server next to it. Your agent checks each address before adding a lead to an Artisan list, and the rest are kept for Ava's do-not-contact list.

What you need

  • A Precleared key. Every new key starts with 14 days at 100 checks a day, then your own 100 a day over MCP, no card needed. Get a free key.
  • Artisan's MCP connector, available on every Artisan plan as an early feature. You sign in with your Artisan account; there's no API key. Your Claude plan must allow custom connectors, and on Team or Enterprise an owner adds it first.

1. Connect both servers

In Claude.ai or the Claude desktop app, open Settings, Connectors, Add, Add custom connector. Paste https://api-dashboard.artisan.co/mcp, then Add, Connect, sign in, pick your organisation and allow access. Add Precleared the same way with https://precleared.dev/mcp?src=guide-artisan, or from the Claude directory. See Artisan's connector guide.

2. Give your agent the rule

Paste this into your agent's instructions, a project's instructions or a skill:

Before adding a new lead to an Artisan list, call Precleared's contact_check once for its email address. Send address_source (where you got the address) and sender_country, plus company_name and pitch when you know them.
- ok_to_email: add the lead to the list. Keep the receipt id with the lead.
- consent_needed or blocked: don't add the lead. List the address for Ava's do-not-contact list and note the next_step.
- unknown: don't add the lead yet. Supply the missing fact (recipient_country, default_recipient_country if all your prospects are in one country, or company_number), then check again.
Every email must meet footer_text: usually who you are, a postal address and a way to opt out.

What happens to each lead

VerdictWhat your agent does in Artisan
ok_to_emailAdds the lead to the list, keeping the receipt id
consent_needed or blockedLeaves the lead out and lists the address for Ava's do-not-contact list
unknownHolds the lead until the missing fact is supplied, then checks again

Good to know

  • Artisan's MCP tools can't edit the do-not-contact list. Add the listed addresses under Manage Ava, Guardrails, DNC: by hand, by CSV, or from a HubSpot, Salesforce or Artisan list.
  • Campaign changes made through the connector are saved as drafts, and the connector can't launch a campaign, so you review before anything sends.
  • Ava also finds leads herself, and those don't pass through your agent. Keep the do-not-contact list up to date, for example from a HubSpot list, to cover them.
  • Settings come from Artisan's connector guide as of 30 October 2026.
  • The ?src=guide-artisan tag on Precleared's address only tells us which guide you used. It doesn't change your allowance or your results.

Every check has a signed receipt. Open precleared.dev/r/ followed by its id to show a client why an email went out.
